Welcome!

Welcome to Sankofa – Storytelling for the digital age! We’re combining traditional storytelling techniques with digital technologies so school children gain skills in both storytelling and digital literacy – like online recording, editing and sharing across national borders. This project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

Use the resources!

Find out about and use the wide range of storytelling teaching resources created by the project – they are aimed at 8 to 13 year olds everywhere.

Story themes

The stories the Sankofa schools will work with are based around a range of global themes, which include migration, gender, biodiversity and climate change, underpinned by the Global Goals.

What does Sankofa mean?

SANKOFA is a word in the Twi language from Ghana, which can be translated as "go back and get it".

Our project looks back to one of the most ancient forms of human communication – Storytelling; a vessel our ancestors used to pass on wisdom and values for a better life for all on this Earth. We look back to stories from across the world, many of which share strikingly similar values and prize similar skills, to find solutions for our most urgent challenges today, towards a more sustainable future for all.
